Predicted West Ham XI to face Wolves at the London Stadium ft. Arnautovic

first_imgManuel Pellegrini will be hoping to pick up his first Premier League points as West Ham United manager on Saturday when Wolverhampton Wanderers arrive at the London Stadium. The game, which is live on talkSPORT 2 from 3pm, will be the Hammers’ second league game at home this season after a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth a fortnight ago. England’s most successful clubs of the past decade, according to trophies won West Ham are still without a point in the league this season after three games How the Premier League table could change after the Boxing Day fixtures silverware 13 The England international is looking more like a Bournemouth reject than the teenager who schooled Xavi and Iniesta all those years ago. Poor performances on such a consistent cannot be accepted and he is already entering last chance saloon in east London. Needs a good game against Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho or face being dropped. 13 REVEALED gameday LEFT-WING – Michail Antonio LEFT-BACK – Aaron Cresswell The former Aston Villa man is probably not the marquee signing Hammers’ fans wanted of their midfield ranks, but he proved in last week’s defeat he has the necessary experience and grit to play a vital role for the club. His superior athleticism to the ageing Mark Noble means he will keep his place ahead of the skipper, just. So how could the Hammers line up on Saturday? Scroll down to see the predicted XI.GOALKEEPER – Lukasz Fabianski Which teams do the best on Boxing Day in the Premier League era? Latest Premier League News 13 13 For a goalkeeper who has conceded 10 Premier League goals, it seems bizarre to call Fabianski one of West Ham’s best early performers. But a string of impressive saves already have justified his position ahead of Adrian. Every current Premier League club’s best kit from the past decade Son ban confirmed as Tottenham fail with appeal to overturn red card 13 smart causal CENTRE-MIDFIELD – Carlos Sanchez Oxlade-Chamberlain suffers another setback as Klopp confirms serious injury 13 Despite limping off last Saturday, the Austrian is set to be recalled to the side. Power, pace, trickery and end product make him Pellegrini’s most important player and he will need to be on top form to test a resolute Wolves defence. Where Ancelotti ranks with every Premier League boss for trophies won HOW WILL THEY LINE UP? A vital goal against Wimbledon in midweek will have given him a much-needed confidence boost. Like many of the new West Ham players, he will have to go through a baptism of fire in order to adapt to the Premier League. This will be another example of such a game. CENTRE-BACK – Angelo Ogbonna ATTACKING MIDFIELD – Felipe Anderson possible standings 13 Did not enjoy the greatest start to the season but, like Diop, a goal will do wonder for his confidence. With Balbuena also struggling, the Italy international will have to prove his worth to this team. 13 STRIKER – Marko Arnautovic After a shaky start against Liverpool, the former Fulham man turned in a far more composed performance against Arsenal last time out. Adds so much pace to the backline and made several important covering tackles against the Gunners. Added to that, Pablo Zabaleta will need to have his game time managed. Tottenham v Brighton LIVE: talkSPORT commentary and team news for Boxing Day opener no dice CENTRE-MIDFIELD – Jack Wilshere REVEALED Fair p[lay to the Scot, he has come back into the fold at West Ham with a fantastic attitude after a season in exile at Aston Villa. A hard worker with exceptional delivery, his versatility across the attacking midfield positions means he will be set to keep his place. 13 13 Capable of producing the sublime and the ridiculous in the same passage of play, his inconsistency has frustrated West Ham fans for years. On his day, he is a proven goalscorer and he is undoubtedly dangerous. A Premier League goal will do wonders for his confidence. RIGHT-BACK – Ryan Fredericks Defeats on the road to Liverpool and, more recently, against Arsenal have left the Hammers rooted to the bottom of the table with a less-than favourable goal difference.Performances have genuinely been improving and, with talisman Marko Arnautovic set to return, Pellegrini will be hoping to ease the growing tension in east London. But they come up against a Wolves side who dominated the Championship last season and who gave Premier League champions Manchester City a serious fright last time out. CENTRE-BACK – Issa Diop 13 When allowed the freedom of a more central role, Anderson was easily the best player on the pitch at the Emirates last weekend. His scintillating pace will frighten any Premier League defence and his link-up play with Marko Arnautovic will only improve with increased game time. 13 13 RIGHT-WING – Robert Snodgrass Arthur Masuaku looks a shell of the player who ran riot down the left-wing under David Moyes last season, so Cresswell should get the nod. He must be better with the ball in possession however, his lapses of concentration have led to six goals in the past four seasons. huge blow How would this team fare against the Championship winners Wolverhampton Wanderers?last_img read more

Boss laughs off ‘crazy’ Cesar rumour

first_imgQPR boss Harry Redknapp has laughed off rumours of a possible move to Leeds United for Julio Cesar.Betting on Cesar’s next club was suspended last week amid suggestions the Brazilian could be on his way to Elland Road.Sky Bet stopped offering odds after it was reported that Massimo Cellino is set to acquire Leeds from GFH Capital.Cellino owns Italian club Cagliari and they were recently linked with Cesar, who has not made a league appearance this season. But Redknapp, who recently mocked bookmakers for installing him as odds-on favourite to be West Ham’s next manager, said there was “not a chance” of his second-choice keeper ending up at Leeds.“That’s a crazy one. It’s absolutely out of the question,” he added.Despite reported interest from a host of top clubs since Cesar was made available at the end of last season, recent interest from Sunderland was the first approach Rangers had received. They have not heard from the Black Cats since but have had enquiries from a number of European sides in the last few weeks.Betting on Cesar joining Arsenal was suspended last summer following reports he was on the verge of a move to the Gunners, who showed no serious interest in signing him.“As I’ve said many times, it’s amazing that no-one has come in for him,” Redknapp said.“He’s a top-class keeper and needs to move. He wanted to move at the start of the year and he’s still available.”See also:QPR boss reveals ‘sudden’ interest in CesarQPR and Sunderland in talks over CesarPoyet appears to have cooled Cesar interestBetting halted amid rumours QPR keeper Cesar could join LeedsQPR hopeful of deal for goalkeeper CesarFollow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Fillip for South African health research

first_img9 June 2015Five South African universities, which were previously under-resourced, have received a R30-million boost for health research. The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) made the announcement yesterday during the launch of the Research Capacity Development Initiative for Selected South African Universities at the council’s headquarters in Cape Town. The principal investigators of the valued projects at various universities had presented their abstracts and their thoughts about the programme before being awarded by the SAMRC board.Universities benefiting from the initiative are the University of Fort Hare, University of Limpopo, Walter Sisulu University, University of Venda and the University of Zululand. They have provided compelling proposals that are aligned with institutional research strengths and priorities. The proposals cover an array of areas in health research such as HIV, indigenous medicines, cancer, environmental health and non-communicable diseases. The universities will receive clinical or health research funding worth up to R1- million per institution per year for five years. Discussions will soon be under way with a sixth institution for the same amount over five years.SAMRC president Professor Glenda Gray said this initiative followed recognition by the council that some universities in South Africa were not accessing funding from the council.“The council, noting this gap, addressed this anomaly by funding health research that is conducted by researchers at previously under-resourced institutions. This research will be rewarding for science, it is pertinent to the country’s burden of disease and a game changer for research,” she said.Professor Jeffrey Mphahlele, the SAMRC vice-president, thanked the principal investigators for developing research in their own institutions and contributing to science as a whole.“I would like to challenge them further though; I’d like them to be a part of the SAMRC legacy and in the long run see some of these projects graduating and joining the SAMRC extramural research.”Source: SAnews.govlast_img read more

6 kg of ivory bound for Nepal seized in Assam

first_imgThe Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Guwahati zonal unit has seized ivory weighing about 6 kg from two persons, including a contractual railway employee, near Guwahati Railway Station.DRI officials said that this confirmed an elephant tusk smuggling trail from within a certain radius of Assam’s Kaziranga National Park to Nepal via the Chicken’s Neck corridor in West Bengal.Wildlife crime investigators had a whiff of this trail when DRI detectives seized 12.41 kg of ivory from a bus in northern West Bengal’s Siliguri town on February 15.“Acting on a tip-off, our officials caught two persons near Guwahati Railway Station about 1 p.m. on Saturday and seized 24 pieces of ivory weight 5.838 kg from them,” a DRI officer who declined to be identified said.Railway employee involvedThe two men were identified as Badrul Hussain of Hojai from central Assam and Suraj Kumar Das from West Bengal. Mr. Das is a contractual railway employee working as a coach attendant of the daily Howrah-Guwahati Saraighat Express train. They were caught as Mr. Das was in the process of receiving the ivory package from Mr. Hussain.Interrogation revealed that Mr. Hussain had received the package from an animal body parts trader in Hojai. Mr. Das was expected to deliver it to a dealer in New Jalpaiguri (railway station for Siliguri) for smuggling out to Nepal.“Wildlife officials have confirmed the ivory was extracted from five adult and sub-adult elephants killed, in all likelihood, in Karbi Anglong district of central Assam,” the DRI officer said. The hills of Karbi Anglong, adjoining Kaziranga National Park, is where animals take refuge when the rhino habitat with a large population of elephants is submerged during floods.Officials said the 12 kg ivory seized in Siliguri earlier this year were sourced from north-eastern Assam’s Lakhimpur district, close to the border of Kaziranga’s Northern Range.last_img read more
