Sri Lankan youth killed playing cricket in Surrey

Surrey CCC said it was saddened to learn of the death of the young boy. Surrey CCC said that Bavalan, who played for Manipay Parish SC (UK) in Division Three of the British Tamil League, was struck on the chest whilst playing at Long Ditton recreation grounds on Sunday July 5th. A young and talented Sri Lankan Tamil boy has been killed after being hit by a ball while batting at the Long Ditton Recreation grounds in Surbiton, Surrey.According to reports, Bavalan Pathmanathan of the Manipay Parish Sports Club (MPSC – UK) was hit on his chest while batting and collapsed a couple of yards away from the pitch on Sunday evening during a Division III match of the British Tamils Cricket League (BTCL). He was given CPR and was treated by an ambulance that was called to the scene and air ambulance doctors, but subsequently passed away from his injuries. Surrey CCC said it share the sadness and shock that this tragic incident has caused, both with within the county’s wider cricketing community and Tamil community cricket family.Surrey CCC Chief Executive Richard Gould said: “Everyone at the club has been deeply saddened to learn of Bavalan’s death and would like to extend their sympathies to his family, friends and everyone who knew him from within the community of cricket.” (Colombo Gazette)
