NEW DELHI: The sweltering summer heat in Delhi pushed its peak power demand to an all time high of 7,409 MW on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The power discoms had earlier predicted that the demand will cross 7,400 MW this summer in Delhi. The website of the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) showed the peak power demand of 7,409 MW at 3.35 pm. The peak demand reached 7,241 MW on Monday. Last year, it was 7,016 MW on July 10.The BSES discoms — BRPL and BYPL met the all-time high peak power demands of 3,159 MW and 1,686 MW in their respective areas, said its spokesperson. “Cooling load is the main reason behind increase in Delhi’s power demand. In fact, according to estimates, almost 50 percent of Delhi’s power demand in summers is due to the cooling load comprising air-conditioners, coolers and fans,” the spokesperson said. Also Read – Bangla Sahib Gurudwara bans use of all types of plastic itemsThe Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited registered 2,074 MW of peak demand as Delhi hit highest ever level of 7,409 MW, said a TPDDL spokesperson. “This summer, the peak demand in Delhi is increasing with each passing day. We are expecting the Delhi peak demand to touch 7,500 MW and TPDDL’s to cross 2,250 MW in the coming days,” said TPDDL CEO Sanjay Banga. The peak demand registered 250 per cent growth by crossing 7,400 MW, as compared to 2,879 MW in 2002. Also Read – After eight years, businessman arrested for kidnap & murderThe BSES spokesperson said the phenomenon load growth in Delhi has been possible on the back of an advanced distribution network and massive reduction in aggregate technical and commercial losses. Delhi’s peak power demand is more than the power demand of Mumbai and Chennai put together, and thrice than that of Kolkata, said the discom spokesperson. The discoms have made adequate arrangements including long term power purchase agreements to meet the rising demand, he said. “We have made adequate arrangements of up to 2,500 MW, along with contingency planning, through long-term tie-ups and power banking arrangements, and upgraded network to ensure regular supply,” Banga said. Arrangements have been firmed up by BSES discoms to source adequate electricity to meet the power demand of over 42 lakhs consumers, said the BSES spokesperson. These arrangements include long term purchases and banking agreements with other states including Himachal, UP, J&K, Meghalaya, Manipur and Sikkim, he added.
CAP-CHAT, Que. – Quebec provincial police say a house fire that caused the death of a woman and her two young twins in the province’s Gaspe region was likely caused by a cooking fire. They say the investigation isn’t complete but all the evidence suggests the fire was accidental.A police spokesperson said the smoke detector in the building wasn’t working.Julie Lemieux, 37, and her one-year-old children were pronounced dead in hospital after the fire broke out in their home in Cap-Chat early Sunday morning.A dozen neighbours were also briefly evacuated.Cap-Chat is a small town located almost 500 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.
The number of Tamil political prisoners, even by the most conservative estimate, is at least 200, some of whom have been detained without charge for more than a decade. In mid-November, responding to an ongoing hunger strike by Tamil political prisoners and a hartal organized by Tamil political parties including the Tamil National Alliance, the Sri Lankan Government promised political prisoners that their cases would at least be reviewed by December 15. While the government has made certain statements regarding political prisoners in the interim, December 15 has come and gone and the Sri Lankan Government has yet to follow through on this promise in any concrete manner or present a clear plan on how they intend to address this issue. The Canadian Tamil Congress (“CTC”) says it is deeply concerned that the Government has failed to uphold its promise to Tamil political prisoners that it would review their cases and ensure their release by December 15, 2015.CTC says it is dedicated to working towards the fulfillment of the resolution on promoting accountability and reconciliation co-sponsored by the Sri Lankan government at the most recent Human Rights Council session, and appreciates the Sri Lankan government’s efforts to do the same. However, in order for any real progress to be made, CTC says the Sri Lankan Government must first take meaningful confidence-building measures to address ongoing human rights violations in order to gain the trust of the Tamil people. One such urgently needed confidence-building measure is to address the situation of Tamil political prisoners. “It is critical that the Sri Lankan government take legitimate action on this issue if they are to build confidence in the Tamil community towards real accountability and reconciliation,” Raj Thavaratnasingham, President of the Canadian Tamil Congress said. CTC accordingly calls on the Sri Lankan Government to demonstrate its commitment to accountability and reconciliation by either releasing or bringing to trial all Tamil political prisoners without delay. CUSHING, Okla. — A sharp earthquake centered near one of the world’s key oil hubs Sunday night triggered fears that the magnitude 5.0 temblor might have damaged key infrastructure in addition to causing what police described as “quite a bit of damage” in the Oklahoma prairie town of Cushing.City Manager Steve Spears said a few minor injuries were reported and questioned whether some of the community’s century-old buildings might be unsafe. Police cordoned off older parts of the town to keep away gawkers.“Stay out of the area,” Spears told residents during a late-night news conference. Emergency officials evacuated an assisted living center catering to the elderly in Cushing. Assistant City Manager Jeremy Frazier said that while damage was reported at the Cimarron Tower after the quake, no injuries were reported among the home’s residents. It wasn’t immediately known how many people lived at the building in downtown Cushing. Tulsa television station KOTV said some of those taken from the home were moved to the Cushing Youth Center.Frazier said the temblor caused the most damage in and around Cushing’s century-old downtown. A number of brick facades had collapsed, and window panes in several buildings shattered. Frazier said city leaders could do a better assessment after sun-up.
Edinson Cavani limped off the pitch in the 70th minute, but not before making his mark with two wonderful goals that gave Uruguay a 2-1 win versus Portugal. We’ll shortly discover who will be playing #FRA in the #WorldCup quarter-finals…Here are your teams for #URUPOR! pic.twitter.com/qMfJPoEcVl— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) June 30, 2018Kylian Mbappe could return to PSG training next week Andrew Smyth – September 12, 2019 Paris Saint-Germain confirmed that Kylian Mbappe could make a return to training to next week as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.A fantastic combination between Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez led to Uruguay’s 7th minute opener. First, Cavani found Suarez on the opposite side of the field with a precise long pass. After making one dribble, Suarez saw Cavani coming towards the back post and returned tha favour with an extraordinary pass of his own right on the head of his partner in attack. Raphael Guerreiro didn’t follow Cavani’s run and the PSG forward headed the ball in to give his team a 1-0 lead. Following the goal, Uruguay retracted and let Portugal dictate the tempo. In the 22nd minute, Luis Suarez earned a free kick and took it himself. He deceived the wall with a low shot, but it was slow enough for Rui Patricio to have time to react and make the save.Later, Bentancur needlessly fouled Goncalo Guedes and gave Cristiano Ronaldo a free kick opportunity. The Portuguese captain hit the wall. Fernando Santos’ team was having a hard time finding a way to break down a defense that didn’t concede a single goal in the group matches. Other than Luis Suarez pretending to get hit in the head, there was nothing of particular interest until the end of the half. The Navigators needed to regroup. In the 54th minute, Pepe tied the game at 1-1. It happened after both Godin and Gimenez went after Cristiano Ronaldo during a corner kick, leaving Pepe alone in the background. Raphael Guerreiro was the one who sent the cross that led to Portugal’s defender evening the score with his head. The goal came unexpected for the South Americans and Portugal was using the momentum to put some extra pressure. Then, Muslera kicked the ball off, Suarez received it, passed it on to Bentancur, who then found Edinson Cavani and the man of the moment scored for a second time in the match with another absolutely wonderful swerve a-la Thierry Henry. Uruguay was back in the lead. Cristian Rodriguez came in for Rodrigo Bentancur after the goal, while Ricardo Quaresma replaced Adrien Silva. In the 70th minute, we lost the player of the match to a muscle injury. Edinson Cavani was helped off the pitch by Cristiano Ronaldo and was then substituted by Christian Stuani. At the same time, Andre Silva took the place of Goncalo Guedes. An exhausted Nahitan Nandez departed the game in the 80th minute, giving way to the experienced Carlos Sanchez. The situation was getting more and more dangerous for Oscar Tabarez’s men, who were sucked in their own box, trying to survive Portugal’s attacking foray. Lokomotiv Moscow’s Manuel Fernandes was the last player to enter the pitch from the bench, exchanging places with Joao Mario. After an extremely tense last minutes plus injury time, the referee blew the final whistle, sending Uruguay to the quarter-finals, where France awaits.
While acknowledging that the terms “legal” and “rebel” are usually an oxymoron, ABA Journal publisher and editor Edward Adams thinks his magazine’s four-month Legal Rebels program will not only put the legal profession in a new light, but also ABA Journal’s parent organization, the American Bar Association. “Over the last year there’s been nothing but negative news for lawyers, such as pay cuts and budget cuts,” said Adams. “We wanted to give them a sense of hope. There is a growing consensus that the profession that emerges from this recession will be much different. It won’t be a return to the good old days.” Legal Rebels profiles 50 leading innovators in the legal profession. The program kicked off with a cover story in ABA Journal’s September issue (the magazine will continue to feature profiles through November, with a final list of the “rebels” appearing in December). Profiles will also appear at a dedicated Web site, www.LegalRebels.com. “We wanted to cover them in way as innovative as what they’re doing,” said Adams. “Every profile has some form of multimedia: photo slideshow, audio podcast, video with folks on tour. We’re trying to use all those tools on this one project.” Three distinct events are attached to the program. Prior to the first profiles appearing, ABA posted a draft of a Legal Rebels manifesto as a wiki, so readers could edit it themselves. Over the course of a month, the manifesto was edited 65 times. At end of that period, ABA Journal posted a final version that was essentially created by the readers. “We want our readers to be involved in this, not just be passive recipients of information,” Adams said. “That’s one of the ways forward for magazines online.”On September 14, ABA Journal launched the two-week mobile tour component of the program, driving from Boston to south of Washington DC, visiting a different ‘Legal Rebel’ each day. The tour will include daily video recaps, live Webcams, a map at LebalRebels.com to chart the tour progress and a song of the day. “We want people to in effect ride shotgun with us,” said Adams. “Whenever I talk about that, everyone smiles and laughs. It’s different and unique, and that’s the kind of reaction we want to get to help build a sense of hope and optimism.” In October, ABA Journal will host 24 Hours of Rebels, in which it will post an essay from one of the Rebels every hour talking about how the profession needs to change in the next five years. ABA will also host a series of events including Web chats and online radio programs featuring debates. The effort ties in with social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, including links to those outlets at the Legal Rebels site. Within two days, ABA Journal had more than 100 Twitter messages about the project. Readers can sign up and push out any comment they make about Legal Rebels to any of their social media accounts. “We recognize people spend a lot of time on those sites,” said Adams. “We also wanted to drive traffic back into our own site. Readers become champions of the project.” Generating Six-Figures in RevenueABA Journal has sold five advertising packages around the program generating “six-figures in new revenue,” according to Adams. Even the sales approach was different: instead of sitting down and meeting with each advertiser, ABA hosted Webinars to explain the program. Three of the advertisers—Starwood Hotels, Hertz and Sprint—are in ABA’s Affinity program offering discounts to members. “When we’re on the road, we’re staying in Starwood hotels, we’re driving a Hertz cars and we’re using Sprint cell phones and wi-fis,” said Adams. The budget for the program is between $15,000 and $20,000 but Adams said the biggest expenses were for equipment like video cameras and an audio recorder.Changing the Perception of ABAAdams said the program gives the ABA staff a chance to learn new skills. “From a management perspective, this is an opportunity for us to experiment with a lot of story-telling techniques,” said Adams. “For many of us, this is the first time we’re shooting and cutting video, it’s the first time we’ve experimented with audio slideshows and podcasts. We’re learning by doing.” The program is also changing the perception of ABA, according to Adams. “One of the challenges for an association is that many are viewed as stodgy, old school, last century,” he said. “Some critics think that of ABA but when you do a project like this, people start to think of the association in a different light. We had a guy on Twitter the other day who said, ‘I’m having a hard time putting the words’ ABA’ and ‘rebels’ in the same sentence but I’m getting used to it.’”
Share your voice See it See It Getty Images If you’re an Android user, Facebook could be tracking your location even when you’re not using the app. But now there’s a way to stop the company from doing so. The world’s largest social network, under pressure to address privacy concerns, said it was releasing a new tool that lets Android users control whether the company tracks their location when they’re not using the Facebook app. That feature is already available for users who access the Facebook app on an iPhone. Before, Android users had only one setting that allowed Facebook to track their location, or not. Unless they turned the tracking off, the social network was able to access their whereabouts. Facebook introduced a new background location setting on Wednesday. Facebook Now Facebook is introducing another option: Users can let Facebook track location only when they’re using the app. The social network uses location data to show people nearby friends and events, but it also uses the info to feed targeted ads. Facebook has been criticized before for the data it collects from Android phones. In May, a Facebook user sued the social network for allegedly collecting information on calls and text messages on Android phones. The social network says it’s alerting users who use the app on Android phones about the new feature, through Facebook. The company says that with the update, it’s not collecting any new information or changing the choices a user previously made. You can find out if Facebook is tracking your location by going to the social network’s settings. Rep. Paul Seaton, R-Homer, co-chair of the House Finance Committee, gives an overview of House Bill 286, the state operating budget, during the House floor session in the Alaska Capitol on Monday. (Photo by Skip Gray/360 North)The Alaska House passed the state budget Monday by a bare majority. The 21-19 vote sends the spending plan to the Senate. The action came after minority-caucus Republicans criticized the budget for not including more of the spending cuts they proposed.Listen nowHomer Rep. Paul Seaton spoke in a favor of the budget, House Bill 286. He’s a majority-caucus Republican who shaped the bill as the co-chairman of the House Finance Committee. Seaton noted the state would draw $1.7 billion from Alaska Permanent Fund earnings to pay for state government.“This budget is historic, in that it is the first time we’re planning to use the percent of market value calculation for (the) permanent fund earnings reserve account for public services, in addition to providing the annual permanent fund dividend,” Seaton said. The budget price tag comes in at $5.5 billion for the portion of the budget the Legislature focuses on each year. That’s $548 million more than last year.Palmer minority-caucus Republican Rep. DeLena Johnson criticized the budget. As an example of spending she opposed, she cited a $500,000 study of vitamin D deficiency supported by Seaton.“There’s still a lot of waste,” Johnson said. “It comes back to accountability. We are accountable for this budget and if we’re not able to bring something forward that shows that we’ve really done our due diligence the budget to the point that is manageable, then … I can’t support this budget.”North Pole Republican Rep. Tammie Wilson agreed there was still room to cut.“I am an absolute no” on the budget, Wilson said. “If we can’t even take out the fat that is in this budget, before we could have the real discussions on the other areas, then we truly aren’t looking for change or transparency.”Much of the increased spending, $263 million, was due to a rise in the permanent fund dividend from $1,100 last year to roughly $1,600. The rest of the increase was mostly for payments for public worker benefits, a $107 million increase, and another $100 million increase for Medicaid and children’s health insurance.Anchorage Democratic Rep. Les Gara said the increases cover the cost of inflation and support public safety.“Those of us who are voting for this budget are saying, ‘Enough is enough. People have a right to be safe in their homes,’” Gara said. “That’s not waste, that’s not fat … those are basic services the public deserves.”Any changes the Senate makes in the budget would likely be worked out in a conference committee.Gov. Bill Walker put out a newsletter Monday reiterating the two conditions under which he’d accept a draw on permanent fund earnings. He said the draw must not endanger the long-term health of the fund and be set at fixed percentage in state law, and that there must be a legal limit on how low the PFD can be.

Every Mainline God of War Game, RankedDemon’s Souls Servers Shutting Down After 9 Years Stay on target All good things must come to an end. After over ten years in production, Sony has officially ceased manufacturing the PlayStation 3 in Japan. As posted on Sony of Japan’s website (via Gematsu), shipments for PS3 model number CECH-4300C have ended. This is the 500GB model that was released in 2014 and which replaced the original “fat” PS3 from 2006 and the first “slim” model from 2009. Reports of Sony ending production of the PS3 began in late March (via Kotaku). To say the PS3 had a rocky start would be an understatement. The original 60GB and 20GB models retailed for $599.99 and $499.99 (respectively) during the November 2006 launch. To make matters worse, the system’s launch lineup wasn’t exactly stellar. In Japan, the system launched with Genji: Days of the Blade, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, and Sega Golf Club. The North American launch faired slightly better, but it wasn’t enough to entice people to buy the expensive console. Because of this, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 — which had launched a year prior to the PS3 — managed to stay ahead of Sony’s system for the majority of the previous generation. At the end of its life, PlayStation 3 managed to sell over 80 million units worldwide. That is an impressive number, but it is still far behind the 155 million selling PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 4 has currently sold 53.4 million consoles. At the rate it is going, it will surpass PS3’s sales eventually. This can be attributed to its strong launch and how it continues to have quality first party games along with strong third party marketing deals.Production of the PS3 may have ended in Japan, but it is still being manufactured in other spots around the world. However, since it is no longer being produced in Japan, it is only a matter of time before production ends globally.
